WOMEN IN PHILANTHROPY 1/14/2015

Collaboration and connection are important concepts in understanding how women typically approach philanthropy – collaborating with non-profit organizations that have had an impact on themselves or someone they know personally, as volunteers and donors, and collaborating with one another to form giving circles and other ways of group giving, to achieve maximum impact with their charitable giving.

What do we want to see here?

Collaboration and connection are important concepts in understanding how women typically approach philanthropy – collaborating with non-profit organizations that have had an impact on themselves or someone they know personally, as volunteers and donors, and collaborating with one another to form giving circles and other ways of group giving, to achieve maximum impact with their charitable giving.

In this workshop, Abbie von Schlegell will elaborate on major trends among women donors.  Including:

  • Women control an increasing proportion (more than half) of private wealth in the United States and make more than 80% of household purchases.
  • Women will inherit 70% of the $41 trillion expected to transfer from one generation to the next over the next 30-40 years.
  • Women tend to donate more of their wealth than men do.
  • Women’s funds are growing exponentially; women have a growing interest in philanthropic models that allow them to leverage and pool their gifts to achieve a greater impact than they could alone.
