Strategic Governance - The Path to Effective Nonprofit Board/Executive Director Partnerships

When a nonprofit leadership team adopts a strategic approach to governance, mission is advanced, challenges overcome, and board members and staff are energized and empowered.

Strategic governance is a process. It is active at every board meeting. It extends beyond the strategic retreat. In this interactive workshop, we'll explore:

  • The 5 critical success factors for strategic governance,
  • The roles and responsibilities of the executive director, board chair, governance committee, and individual board members,
  • Ways to recognize and overcome the obstacles to strategic governance,
  • Three things you can do at your very next board meeting to foster strategic governance.

Instructor: Rob Leighton is the executive director of the iMission Institute, a capacity-building organization providing training and consulting for nonprofit organizations. Rob works with both boards and executive teams to define, prioritize, activate and implement strategy and key initiatives. He has served in leadership roles in nonprofit, private and public sector organizations.

Seminar fee: $50 members, $75 non-members
