This course will be interactive utilizing lecture, small and large group discussions, as well as case studies and film vignettes to reinforce the materials presented.This training has been approved for 5 Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT.

Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders

 

This course will cover the most prevalent DSM-V diagnoses present in the mental health and substance using populations.  A review of common signs, symptoms, and current medications will be reviewed. The best practice models of treatment will be discussed and applied in case studies reviews. This course will be interactive utilizing lecture, small and large group discussions, as well as case studies and film vignettes to reinforce the materials presented.

 

Instructor:

Mary O'Sullivan LMFT, LADC, LPC 

Mary is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and Certified Clinical Supervisor.  Her experience in the development of co-occurring disorders treatment spans over 26 years and she was an initial member of the Connecticut Task Force which was instrumental in the development of the basis for the DDCAT model of co-occurring disorders assessment and treatment which then moved on to become a national model.

 

She is a Behavioral Health Clinical Manager and Discipline Supervisor for the 51 Certified Addiction Counselors at the Connecticut Valley Hospital where she is responsible for managing all facets of the 120 bed inpatient addiction and co-occurring disorders rehab programs for the State of Connecticut. She was the facilitator of a program within this state hospital system which resulted in every Certified Addiction Counselor successfully receiving certification as a co-occurring disorders specialist. She has been a member of the Connecticut Certification Board for over a decade and serves as the Chair of the Ethics committee and in the past has served on many other committees to include the initial development of the co-occurring disorders committee. She was the first person in the State of Connecticut to be given the Award of Appreciation for her work in the addictions and co-occurring treatment and training fields.

 

Currently, she additionally provides consultation regionally and nationally in criminal justice, adolescent and young adult treatment, trauma treatment, and pharmacology.  She is currently completing her final year of study for her Ph.D. in clinical psychology.

 

Program Fees:

The member fee is $120 and the nonmember fee is $170 for general registration. Early Bird registration is $95 for members and $145 for nonmembers. The Early Bird Discount is available until June 1, 2017.

The program fee covers workshop materials, assessment tools, and most meals. Payment is due in full upon registration and enrollment will not be guaranteed until payment is received.

 

This training has been approved for 5 Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT and meets the continuing education criteria for CT Social Work Licensure renewal.
