Managing People 3-Part Certificate Series

Managing People is a 3-Part series which cannot be broken into singular parts. Below is a breakdown of topics scheduled for each day.


October 16 | Introduction to Leadership: Supervisors are responsible for the quality of other people’s work. In order to do their job effectively, organizations must provide supervisors with the tools to influence their direct reports. This session focuses on the manner in which the interpersonal conduct of the supervisor allows him/her to develop leadership qualities that will have a salutary influence on those for whom he/she is accountable. Topics include the role of the manager as a supervisor, the development of leadership, managing critical moments, employee involvement, communications and more.


October 24 | Introduction to Supervision: One of the most important roles of any supervisor is to help employees perform tasks in effective ways. This session focuses on the ways supervisors can help staff develop their abilities and understanding of appropriate roles as independent variables resulting in better performance. Topics include the role of the supervisor, delegation and accountability, negotiating expectations, positive reinforcement and mechanisms to help improve performance.


October 30 | Counseling & Discipline: All supervisors will eventually conduct a counseling session to discuss apparent performance problems. This course will treat a counseling session as a method to avoid discipline as well as a coaching activity consistent with the need to help staff find ways to overcome the challenges they face at work. Topics include the role of the supervisor, an introduction to conducting counseling sessions, writing counseling memos, an overview of discipline as well as a look at disciplinary action case studies.



Presenter: Steven J. Greenblatt, Esq. Principal, Carpe Diem Associates is well known in our community of nonprofits for facilitating the successful Managing People Series training. He is a Professor at Penn State University, holds a Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School, and a Masters in Labor Law from New York University School of Law.  His trainings are dynamic, relevant, and interactive. Participants will be provided with scenarios relevant to the sectors they serve, and applicable to the participants' work experiences and settings. 



Certificate of Completion: All participants who attend this three-part series will receive a Certificate of Completion following the last session.

Certificate of Achievement: Participants who attend this three-part series have the option of sitting for a final exam on the last day of class proctored by the course instructor. Any individual earning a score of 80% or higher will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

Regular rates are:

  • $430 for members
  • $600 for not-yet-members

* The program fee covers workshop materials and assessment tools. Periodic breaks and lunch breaks will take place. Meals will not be provided. Payment is due in full upon registration and enrollment will not be guaranteed until payment is received.
