The popular Certificate in Grant Seeking two-day workshop series helps participants identify potential grant makers, learn the elements of writing successful grant proposals, prepare a draft of their proposal including a logic model and understand the challenges of being a grant reviewer. These workshops are ideal for both the novice and intermediate grant seeker. Within a short period of time, participants hone their grant seeking skills. All participants are asked to bring an idea for a project or program in need of funding. Workshops in this series combine lecture, discussion and hands-on learning.


DAY 1 | Finding Funders and Grant Proposal Writing

This workshop provides a step-by-step process to identify and locate appropriate funding sources including foundations and corporate giving programs. Learn the appropriate tools to use to match the proper funding institution to the needs of the nonprofit organization. Topics include:

  • Changing the face of grants
  • Identifying types of funding institutions
  • Identifying resources
  • Providing a method of determining potential match

Grant Proposal Writing Part 1

This workshop provides working knowledge of how grant makers review proposals as well as develop the program or project idea. Discussions will include developing outcomes using logic models. Topics include:

  • How grant makers review proposals
  • Typical reasons for rejection
  • Logic model development


DAY 2 | Grant Proposal Writing Part 2

Receive a section-by-section outline for preparing successful grant proposals, timelines, flowcharts and evaluation methodology. Fine-tune your skills to craft competitive grant proposals. Discussions include formatting the narrative to get to the point quickly and effectively Topics include:

  • Four C’s of effective grant proposals
  • Making your proposal stand out
  • Recommended reading list
